The 4 Best Minecraft Server Certifications

You’ve played Minecraft for a while now, but how do you get certified in it and leverage it towards school and employment? There are many different factors involved in making yourself look more qualified for a certain position, and certifications is one of the more important ways to do so. Whether you are a developer, builder, designer or administrator, it will help you get an edge amongst your peers. This article will give you several tips on how to become certified within Minecraft.

The four industry recognized certifications we will be discussing are:

    • Certified Game Server Manager
    • Certified Game Server System Administrator
    • Certified Game Server Developer
    • Certified Game Server Designer

    Certification Process

The certification process is pretty simple. After paying a small fee, simply take the test with a score of 60% or above. There are unlimited attempts allowed, so feel free to try again and again with no extra charge. Best of all, the certifications are relatively inexpensive since they are all less than $10. Upon being certified, you will receive a certificate along with a shareable URL for you to share with both friends and employers alike.

If it is still above your budget, do keep in mind that the return on your investment is great. The certifications never expire and you are free to include it on your resume, LinkedIn profile and minecraft forums profile. The potential is limitless. You will most certainly gain your investment back over the lifetime of the certification. It would also open you up to potentially paid Minecraft, and even IT positions. These positions could be remote/online and very lucrative as well.

Certified Minecraft Server Manager and System Administrator

If you are a Minecraft server manager who is responsible for general administration, managing server staff and growing the community, then this certification would be perfect for you. The system administrator certification is a bit more technical in the sense that you would need to know how to manage servers on the back-end as well. However, it is not as technical as the developer certification. Given that there are unlimited attempts, there is no harm in going for both the manager and the system administrator certification.

Many paid, and even free Minecraft server positions require one of these two certifications as a bare minimum. Having these certifications would increase your chances of being employed exponentially when compared to other applicants who do not hold the necessary qualifications.

    Certified Minecraft Server Developer

The developer certification is the more technical than the others. In addition to general administration knowledge, you would have to know basic coding skills as well. It is recommended that you know at least one programming language before attempting this certification. Passing the short quiz would show employers that you have what it takes to be a developer, not necessarily just within Minecraft but in general. After all, if you are able to develop Minecraft servers, you would be able to develop other systems as well.

In my opinion, this is the most impressive certification out there. It shows that you are comfortable with the many technicities in the Minecraft space. Therefore, it is recommended that you start off with administrator or manager first before proceeding to this certification. However, if you are up for a challenge, feel free to go for this certification directly. There is no harm since you are allowed many attempts.

    Certified Minecraft Server Designer

This certification is the least technical and is ideal for both graphic designers and builders. Although little to no preparation is needed for any of these certifications since there are unlimited attempts, the designer certification is considered to be the easiest. If you have a good eye for design and you have built many creations within Minecraft, then I would highly recommend this one. However, it will still impress employers and other players in the Minecraft community.

One thing to note is that there is no requirement for you to be familiar with Minecraft servers. The designer certification is made for the average Minecraft player, and you are almost guaranteed to pass on your first try if you have a bit of talent with building in Minecraft. If you absolutely lack technical skills, starting off with the designer is highly recommended. Afterwards, feel free to aim higher and go for the more technical certifications. If you are already super technical, become a certified designer would show that you have the essential soft-skills and creative thinking that pairs well with your technical skills.

    Advertising

If you have a Minecraft Server, I would highly recommend Minebrowse as well for your advertising needs. They have many different advertising packages that would allow you to target potential players. Adding your server onto the list is free as well, with paid options available to further boost your server. Whether you are a minecraft server staff or an owner, advertising is still essential to the success of your server.

Although there are many ways to promote your server, it is important to use paid advertising as well. From experience, the rate of growth is exponentially increased when you add paid advertising to the mix. Best of all, it is very affordable and you are bound to make your initial investment back with donations from the influx of new players.

Tips for Being Even More Qualified

    • Get Certifications. It is important that you are working on your certifications. Certifications show employers and the minecraft community at large about your qualifications as an individual. There is absolutely no harm in getting a few additional certifications after your first. It can only benefit you. Check them out here
    • Continue Self-Learning. There are many free resources online to self learn. I recommend searching your favorite topics on Youtube, as there is always someone there ready to teach you. All it takes is some motivation and ambition.
    • Display your qualifications. After getting your certifications, make sure to share it within the community! You should be proud of your new achievement.
